Avarcas are a traditional footwear of Menorca, Spain, originally created over 100 years ago, as a durable, practical shoe for farmers and laborers working the islands farm lands.

Crafted from all natural leathers and recycled tyres, they were designed to keep feet dry, comfortable and protected in all conditions.

Over the years they have evolved into a stylish, everyday summer sandal popular worldwide.

Key Features of Avarcas

Leather Upper – Traditionally made from soft, high-quality leather, however designs now incorporate suede, nubuck, canvas, or nubuck, or vegan materials.

Open-Toe Design – Helps keep feet cool in warm weather.

Backstrap – A signature feature that provides support while keeping the shoe secure.

Flexible Sole – Originally made from recycled car tires for durability, but now often crafted from rubber, jute, or other comfortable materials.

Handmade Construction – Authentic Avarcas are handcrafted in Menorca and often come with the Avarca de Menorca certification to ensure authenticity and quality.

LENGTH: Your foot should fill the whole shoe from front to back with no extra space at the heel

WIDTH: Should be snug when brand new, not uncomfortably tight. We use very high quality leather that will stretch and soften with wear. Classic Avarcas will be tight when they are new and will soften and mould to your foot as you wear them.

Please avoid sizing up in this style, as once the leather has softened and stretched the heel strap may slip off.

Our Classic Avarca range uses a cow leather for the insole which has followed a 100% natural and chemical-free vegetable tanning process, therefore no finish is applied to the leather.

This allows the foot to breathe naturally, keeping the foot dry and avoiding perspiration and bad
smells. The insoles will naturally change colour and darken over time with wear and with exposure to light, sun and dirt.

In order to keep your insole as fresh as possible, we recommend ensuring that your feet are always clean and dry when wearing them, as dirt transfer from your feet to the insoles can cause stains.

To clean the insoles, we recommend using a gentle leather cleaning spray or cream to remove excess dirt but please note that dirt absorbed by the leather will not be able to be removed.

You can also spray your innersoles with a leather protecting spray when new to protect against water and stains.
